The $75 Thief
Do you know this person? (I asked FB)
Did this person commit bank fraud, ID fraud, or just rip me off? I want other venues to be warned. And if this person's identity was truly stolen, I want them alerted so they can take appropriate action.
I observe that the first names (between the reservation and the review) are not an exact match, and the last names are different.
Since a large number of my clients are coming while navigating SA, DA, infidelity, divorce, or their names don’t match their IDs for one or more reasons, this didn’t faze me at the time. And to protect the vulnerable, this one person is not going to cause me to start IDing everyone. At the same time, I can understand why so many businesses faced with something like this DO card people. I won’t — if they stole someone’s payment method, they likely created a fake ID to match. It’s THEIR Karma, not mine.
I am less frustrated with Square and more frustrated with the customer’s bank. I hope whoever stole the money feels it was worth all the trouble they caused.
This was not my first Square dispute. It WAS the first one I lost. And it’s the dumbest one I have had to fight. It’s rare that I have a five star review as evidence that someone used and appreciated my services. So that felt like the biggest slap in the face.
